I've found that most of the time, when I take a chance on a horror movie, it sucks. The fact that there are plenty of films on this site with ratings of two stars or less that will attest to that. However, every once in a while, I wind up with a good film--nothing spectacular, just a nice bit of entertainment. Aberration is such a film. It isn't Citizen Kane--it isn't even Q--but it is a well-oiled mix of action, gross-out, and silly humor. Not bad as far as pacing goes, either--the film actually gives the mood a little time to develop, and when the lizards show up, it switches gears nicely. Eventually, Aberration becomes a minor league gross-fest with a nice twist or two. True, I could have done without some of the stupider one-liners (though there's some charm there, I admit) and without Simon Bossell's impromptu Bruce Campbell impression at the end, but overall, Aberration is more fun than it probably should have been. Though this movie is not yet available at a reasonable price, used copies can be bought for less than $10 in some video rental stores.
