Man, is this one fun. I was transfixed the entire way through the film, from the opening scenes--in which not a word is spoken--through the tense climax and into the strangely calm, logical ending. Vincent Price and company are in high camp mode for this one--it has plenty of eye candy, a good amount of humor, and several appropriately gruesome death scenes. And I love each and every set, especially (of course) Phibes' supremely Art Deco lair. The cast, including Joseph Cotten, is uniformly excellent, but they're easily overshadowed by the wonderful Price, who--without even uttering a word on-camera--holds us through the entire movie.

A brilliant film, though it's sadly ruined if you watch Vincent in his Comedy of Terrors--after that, you can't ever see the serious side of him. However, this film does hit the spot and gets you involved from the start. A great cult film with catchy tunes which would go down well at any club!

My all-time favorite Vincent Price movie. Price is brilliant as Phibes, and the story has just enough comedy, horror, gore, and the most cleverly designed killings in movie history. You'll find yourself asking, "How's he going to do this one in?" Rent it on a Saturday night with the sequel, a bag of popcorn, and a cold six pack. You'll have fun with this one.
