| Synopsis |
|
The Lutz family moves into their Long Island dream home, a place where a series of horrible murders had taken place just a year before. A month later, they flee it, barely avoiding being killed by the demonic forces that possessed the house.

Not a bad ghost film--it's kind of creepy at times, especially if you can get into the idea that it actually happened (be it true or not). Unfortunately, that's also leads to one of its failings; as it gets less and less realistic, it loses its effect. By the end, when it's channeling The Shining, it's passed almost into ludicrosity. But Rod Steiger is great (even if he overacts even more than the rest of the cast), and Lalo Scrifin's theme is uniquely chilling.

Not a bad movie, the best Amityville film to date. I think they ripped the end right out of The Shining, though.
