For all of the film noir sensibilities Kenneth Branagh put into Dead Again, its score exhibits a curious absence of that genre's music. However, Patrick Doyle's bombast serves him well here in tracks like "The Headlines," which acts as an overture, including themes found later in the music and hinting openly at the action and intrigue that is to follow, in both the score and the film. Doyle is also dead-on in his use of oboe and yearning strings, and in "Winter 1948" develops a tender love theme worth remembering. A quite good score to a fantastic movie.
