A collection of scary sounds that may actually scare. The day before I wrote this, I was wondering what any collection of "horror sounds" could do to separate itself from the pack. After all, they're all pretty much the same thing: a group of traditionally "scary" sounds: doors creaking, monsters laughing, footsteps, the whistling wind, etc., thrown together seemingly at random. Halloween Sounds of Horror differentiates itself by not using those traditional noises. Instead, by launching sudden noises, unintelligible voices, and low laughter at us, it explores the idea of what makes sound frightening. It recognizes that sudden and unidentifiable noises are immensely more frightening than any clichéd witch cackle. The album actually did succeed in making me vaguely disturbed, something no other sound effects album hasaccomplished (with the exception of the "Tooth Terror" track on Scary Halloween, but that's a different story). If you're looking for a good--and cheap--way to accompany your haunted house this Halloween, this album may be your answer.
