The title track for In the Mouth of Madness, a dated guitar solo, sets the wrong tone for an album that is an enjoyable collection of low and growling mood music. Though it's accentuated by the occasional accompaniment for scare scenes and features nicely uncomfortable string squeals, In the Mouth of Madness spends most of its run maintaining a more subdued sense of dread than many Carpenter scores.
