Part of the Blair Witch series.
|
| Information |
· Curse is composed largely of material reportedly first intended to be put in the theatrical release The Blair Witch Project. However, the filmmakers eventually decided (helped, some say, by the release of the very similar Last Broadcast) to make the theatrical release a purely first-person piece and turn the documentary into a companion show.

Word has it that this film--a pseudodocumentary account of the Blair Witch myth, including the disappearance of the three film students with whom we are so familiar--was going to be what was released into theaters the summer of '99. Then The Last Broadcast came along, and all of a sudden, the idea didn't seem quite as original any more. So the additional Blair Witch footage--everything but the three students in the woods--became a tie-in special on the Sci-Fi Channel. And wound up being just as good--maybe even better--than the film itself. Or so the story goes.
This is a great piece of pseudodocumentary, flawlessly concocting and presenting pro and con opinions, historical accounts, local testimony, and archival footage into a seamless whole. Curse of the Blair Witch is the best companion piece to a film I've ever seen; not only does it fit with the film, it enhances it to the point of being almost necessary (though both pieces can exist separately, in an interesting relationship). Well-made and nicely creepy.
