Synopsis
The events of Night of the Living Dead are getting rapidly worse, as zombies are beginning to overrun the world. In order to escape, four people take refuge in a Pennsylvania shopping mall. Fascinating and disturbing, intelligent and complex, Romero's Dawn of the Dead is incomparable--in my mind, easily the best zombie film ever made. Period. The shopping mall provides nearly endless opportunities for satire and social commentary, and Romero capitalizes (sorry) on all of them. The zombies aren't always treated with the utmost seriousness in Dawn of the Dead--they're even used for comedy at times--but when they are treated seriously, they're absolutely terrifying. More than any specific example of horror, though, Dawn of the Dead's ultimate triumph is drawing us utterly and completely into its world of a slow, sickening apocalypse--not only making us believe it could happen, but making us believe it is happening.

RATING
To me, Dawn of the Dead is one of the most outrageously unlimited films ever. I say "unlimited" because Romero is not afraid to go ultra-violent. It's completely off the wall and extremely entertaining. No doubt one of the best horror movies I've seen . . . actually, it is the best.
