A story about a person returning from the dead to right their murder by alerting someone to the fact that it happened is nothing new. But it is nice when the story is told in such a way that it's enjoyable and is a decent way to kill, you know, a couple of hours. Death Dreams is that. It's not great, but it's certainly not bad. The acting is passable, and Christopher Reeve, especially, gives a nicely balanced performance as the accused. Reeve keeps the audience unsure as to whether he is a killer or not--and if he is a killer, he gives no clues as to how the character feels about it. Despite the fact that the ghostly effects are overdone (as is Fionnula Flanagan's accent), and that the film eventually succumbs to the same kind of courtroom melodrama that felled Audrey Rose, its rewards outweigh its problems.
