No matter what the quality of Demon Wind, it would be inevitably compared to films with similar plots like Night of the Living Dead and The Evil Dead. While Demon Wind doesn't even come close to the quality of those classics, it's entertaining and moves quickly. The acting is, for the most part, amateurish, though some people--Francine Lapensée, especially--have good moments. Some of the plot devices, too, are silly. I mean, how many teenage magicians carry guns with them wherever they go? The makeup is barely passable (I swear I saw a mutilated Ronald Reagan mask on one "demon"). Still, Demon Wind has a couple of creepy moments, and I like the front door/dimensional gateway thing.

Out of all the old movies I have collected over the years, Demon Wind is one I'm really wanting to get a hold of. The dimensional change the characters experience when walking through the old farm door was a cool trip; I've never seen that done in such a way before. This movie was pretty original, and the actors really didn't suck too badly. However, if I never see a "mashed potato through the mouth" scene again, it will be too soon.
