Hollywood, CA
One of the episodes of the continuing series, this detailing the doomed life and career of actress Peg Entwistle. Entwistle, a very young and successful Broadway actress, moved to Hollywood during the depression. She received several walk-ons, then a small role in RKO's Thirteen Women, a role that was almost completely cut. The film received poor reviews, and she was fired. She climbed to the top of the Hollywood sign and jumped, killing herself. Ironically, soon afterward, her uncle received a letter intended for her--it was an invitation to star in a Hollywood play in the role of a woman . . . who kills herself.
Some claim Entwistle now haunts the Hollywood sign, especially on foggy nights that studio films prize so much. One such person is Griffith Park Ranger John Arbogast, who is responsible for responding to alarms set off by the the sign's light and motion detectors. Arbogast claims that at times, the motion detectors informed him that although he thought no one was there . . . someone was standing five feet in front of him.
