| Synopsis |

In this followup to The Evil Dead, our hero, Ash, goes to the forest-surrounded cabin in Tennessee with his girlfriend Linda once again for the first time. After playing a recording of incancations found in an ancient book called the Necronomicon, Ash, along with some demon-fodder that show up, finds himself set upon by forces of evil--and some zombies to boot.

A remarkable achievement, inarguably the best horror-comedy ever made, and a brilliant example of pushing the genre to several of its extremes. Sam Raimi's always stylistic and inventive directing switches into hyperdrive here--the few moments in this film that allow us to catch our breath are present only so the next moment can steal it from us again. This is one of the most wicked comedies ever made--gory, imaginative, and funny to the extreme. Bruce Campbell is perfect as the lead--he is totally, completely, over the top. And who would have thought we'd see character development in a gore movie? Still, ED 2 is far more than any regular horror film--it's a roller coaster ride. And, if you ever get the chance, it's even better on the big screen, in an audience filled with fellow horror freaks. |
