Last House on the Left has a raw feeling which suits its subject matter--the film definitely has more of a visceral impact than a large majority of horror movies. In fact, the lack of polish in regard to some of the performances only serves to increase the effect of the film on the viewer.

I gave the film five stars for several reasons. Unlike many other films, this horror is grounded in a reality that is uncomfortably familiar. The jumps from pain and violence to slapstick and laughing serve to antagonize the viewer. It is a gutsy film because it takes the universal violence that occurs daily in our world and unblinkingly shoves it into the viewer's eyes and mind. What is a justifiable response to violence in our lives? There are other touches that will engrain themselves onto the viewers memory: prayers of a girl, spent appearance of the attackers, and a girl's walk in the water. Overall, it is truly real. I would defintely watch it again. Ultimately, this is a horror film that will stick out above almost anything else you will watch. Whenever you lean back comfortably in life, the memory of this film will never let you forget the actual victims of violence that surround us in our world and the definitive response to evil predators that are also universal in our earthly place.
