It's a simple story, really. Boy loses job. Boy kidnaps girl. Boy and girl bond. Boy loses girl. Gun-toting angels intervene. All in the name of love.
Subgenres: religion, comedy
Director: Danny Boyle
Starring: Ewan McGregor, Cameron Diaz
I really found this movie charming. A Life Less Ordinary isn't a classic, nor is it as good as the filmmakers' previous efforts, Shallow Grave and Trainspotting, but it is inventive, wildly staged, and, to me, a hell of a watch. And who knew Ewan McGregor had such a nice singing voice? (Sep 30, 1999)
This is one of my favourite movies, and I have seen it over 50 times (last summer, I was stuck in a little middle-of-nowhere town in Switzerland with nothing to do, and only 4 good movies to watch - this, and the 3 Godfather movies, so I watched this almost every day). It's funny, Ewan McGregor is particularly hot in it, the dialog is witty, and it's an overall good movie with a unique concept. (More than just boy-meets girl . . . there's also boy-gets-replaced-in-his-janitorial-job-by-a-robot-which-he-throws-out-of-the-window story :) ) Watch it for yourself. (Jul 16, 2000)
