This movie, though it never quite gripped me as a horror film--I don't know why, it just didn't--presents some fascinating ideas about the benefits and perils involved in placing your belief in either the supernatural or the natural. Baker and Bates may both be solid in their supporting roles, but it is Goldblum, in a simmering, fierce, intensely weird performance, who is the key to this film. His low-key performance results in one of the most electrifying killers in recent cinema. The film is also buoyed by its examination of philosophical issues relating to man's dependence on technology and ignorance of supernature--Mr. Frost (and Mr. Frost) merely presents us with ideas and points of view, but doesn't tell us what to think.(Mar 2, 1999)
