October 9, 2000: Michael Jackson as Edgar Allan Poe? Michael Jackson? What a twisted and (potentially) wonderful idea! I don't know enough about this film to make any sort of intelligent appraisal of its chances, but I'd bet half a bottle of cognac that following its progress will be interesting.

Jackson has wanted to do a film like this for a long time, having reportedly long possessed an appreciation of horror. Nightmare is, as of this writing, scheduled to begin filming in Montreal in March of 2001. (That will be after Jackson finishes five months of voice training; according to producer Gary L. Pudney (Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus), Jackson said, "'By the time I have finished training they won't even recognize me.'")

The Nightmare of Edgar Allan Poe will be executive produced by Jackson, Pudney and Jim Green (Stephen King's It). It will, according to WENN, include a song by Michael Jackson called "Annabel Lee."

Poe's works have been adapted (and perverted) into many films. The wonder of pre-copyright works.
