A rating of zero is something I rarely give. It isn't often that I find a film that has, in my opinion, nothing to offer. Cannibal Ferox fit that bill--although some consider it a classic, I thought it was boring, stupid, and terribly offensive. Lady Terminator is horrible--I'd give it a half a star just on its own virtues (or, obviously, lack thereof). The writing is incredibly silly and inane, the acting terrible, the directing decidedly substandard, and the editing is among the worst I've ever seen. There are things exploding spontanously. Characters doing things that make no sense. Pretentious voice-overs. A rip-off of The Evil Dead within the first few minutes. And countless other insults to the decent, self-respecting moviegoer. So half a star. But--and this is what Sifl and Olly might call a "serious-ass" but--this film is an absolute rip-off of The Terminator. I know, with a title like "Lady Terminator," I should have seen that coming from the very beginning. But I was amazed at the chutzpah of the filmmakers. They lift entire scenes from The Terminator, and can't even come close to that film's expertise, technical mastery, and entertainment value. So, of course, the whole thing is--what do you know--complete shit! What do we have here, you ask? The invincible, black-leather clad murderer? It's here. The shootout in the techno dance club? Got it, complete with the line "Come with me if you want to live." Stolen cop car, machine gun massacre in a police station, bonding/sex scene after a car stops working, self-induced eye-gouging, skeletal figure rising from flames? All here. Even some shots are lifted directly from James Cameron's film. A travesty, an insult, and something about which the Terminator people should have instigated litigation . . . if it was worth their time. I feel dirty enough just spending ten minutes writing a review of it. Blech. (Dec 28, 1999) | ||||||
Completely rips off the classic film The Terminator, lifting ideas, dialogue, and in some cases almost entire scenes from that film.
