A few moments of tension highlight an otherwise uninvolving affair. I don't know if the book's like this, but the movie winds up coming off like a second-rate It in that the "haunted" town concept inherent in both works is stated here but not explored enough. That might result in a movie that's okay, but not great, if some parts weren't just outright silly (many of which involve Liev Schreiber's character, though through no fault of his, unless you count the fact that he took the part in the first place). One last thing--you can take a cute Golden Retriever, put him in a movie, and tell me he's supposed to be scary, but don't expect me to buy it. (1999/Feb 5, 2002) | ||||||
