Its examination of the effect alcoholism can have on one's relationships and career may be lacking in depth, but Reaper deserves commendation for touching on both without preaching. (Even if Stephen King did so quite a bit better twenty years before.) Reaper is far more concerned, of course, with setting up an atmospheric setting and holding viewers through the solution of the mystery it wishes to tell. It succeeds in creating a mild atmosphere, but even with a good twist or turn along the way, the solution to the crime just feels too arbitrary, as if any of the characters might have been the perpetrator. And what's with all the characters mumbling?
