In the final year of the eighteenth century, Police Detective Ichabod Crane journeys to the rural New York town of Sleepy Hollow, seeking the reason why several corpses have turned up in the woods nearby--without their heads. Although the very purpose of Crane's "contemporary" investigatory methods is to cast doubt on such superstitutions, the locals claim it is the work of a headless horseman.
