I'm happy this movie exists for just one reason--it's a ghost story primarily involving African-American characters; a rarity, for certain. Unfortunately, Spirit Lost, soon after it starts, turns into just another person-obsessed-by-a-spirit tale that's been done many times before, and done much better. At times, the film does capture the sick feeling of sexual obsession, but it more often injects far too much sex into the supernatural happenings, thus rendering them mundane. In total, a little too obvious for my tastes, but buoyed, somewhat, by a good performance by Regina Taylor. (Aug 18, 1999) | ||||||
