If anyone ever told me I'd wind up liking a remake better than an original film--a Hollywood remake of a European film, no less--I'd think they were crazy. I realize I'm representing the dissenting opinion here, but this Vanishing shows that sometimes remakes can improve on originals. Unlike the cold, nearly emotionless European version of the story, this Vanishing gripped me. Sure, Kiefer Sutherland comes dangerously close to overacting. (Jan 29, 2000) | |
