The society's October 2004 speaker was Architect Margaret Westfield. Margaret, former President of the Historical Society, spoke to the assembled group about the importance of the preservation of historical architecture.
Any uninitiated in the crowd learned that Haddon Heights was in fact the third town in New Jersey to enact legislation regulating the development of historical locations by organizations using government funds (the first and second being Cape May and Haddonfield, respectively). Margaret supplemented her talk by showing slides of importance to the subject, including before-and-after pictures of the incident that played an integral role in the fomenting of preservation efforts in the borough--the destruction of the home at 6 White Horse Pike to make way for a new commercial building.
