April 2008 Meeting - Pennsylvania Reading Seashore Line & Haddon Heights

Although passenger rail travel from Haddon Heights ended many years ago, there has been recent activity in and around the Haddon Heights Rail Station; the Delaware and Susquehanna Model Railroad Club has taken up residence in the building. While a lot remains to be done to bring the place up to snuff, this group has been generously displaying their model railroad layouts whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Our speakers for the April meeting took us back to bygone days. Bob Cubberly of the Delaware and Susquehanna Model Railroad Club presented an overview of the early Philadelphia and Atlantic Railroad as well as other South Jersey railroads. He spoke about the Pennsylvania Reading Seashore Line's connections to Haddon Heights, showing fascinating old maps and graphics of former and current rail lines and facilities. He was accompanied by Rich Magee of the West Jersey Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society.

The preceding was adapted from the April 2008 Historical Society Bulletin, written by Ken Funkhouser.
