October 2005 Meeting - Einstein's Miracle Year

Every October, the Historical Society has its annual business meeting, in which the members of the board of directors are chosen for the next year. There are many familiar names on the 2006 board, though many are attached to different titles: former Trustee Marshall Hatfield is now President, outgoing President Peter Hill, in accordance with the Society's newly-located by-laws, became Vice President, and Ginny Appleby returned to the board as a Trustee.

After the business portion of the meeting was concluded, the assembled membership was treated to a presentation by Gail Stern, Executive Director of the Historical Society of Princeton. Using slides and discussion, she spoke about the giant strides in research that Albert Einstein made 100 years ago, and pointed out that this is both the 50th anniversary of his death and the 75th anniversary of Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study, with which Einstein worked. She went on to speak about the great scientist's idiosyncracies, his emigration to the the United States, even the furnishings in his house. Ms. Stern also detailed the efforts of the Historical Society of Princeton to bring the town's history alive through exhibitions and historic preservation.
